v0.4.0
Topics, browsing by topic, and a sidebar that fills itself
- Optional automatic topics for your sources, each with its own icon
- An "Active this week" strip on your updates
- Topic pages with their updates and their sources
- A sidebar that shows what you read recently, with a dot for anything new
Topics for your sources
A new setting, Describe my sources, gives each source a topic, such as Design or Finance, and a kind, such as Publication or Store. It is off until you turn it on. When a source is unclear, it is left without a topic rather than given a wrong one; sources without one are listed as “Uncategorized”.
To work out the topic, Neuplace sends information about each source to Google’s Gemini. Before the setting turns on, a confirmation screen lists exactly what is sent and what is not, so you can decide with the full picture.
Each topic has its own icon, and the topic appears on a source’s header and on the rows that list it.
Active this week
Your updates page now has an Active this week strip. It shows the topics your sources wrote about in the last seven days, with the faces of the sources behind each one and how many of their updates you have not read yet.
Topic pages
Tap a topic, from the strip or from any source, to open its page: the recent updates from every source in that topic. The line under the title, for example “4 sources this week”, opens the list of that topic’s sources. A topic page also works when you reload it or open its link directly.
On a source’s page, a new More in section, titled with the topic’s name, shows recent updates from other sources you follow on the same topic.
A sidebar that fills itself
The sidebar used to hold only favorites, which you had to set up yourself. It now starts with Recent: the last five sources you read something from, most recent first, updating as you read. Your favorites follow below, with pinned sources grouped under them.
A blue dot on a source means something new has arrived since you last opened it. Opening the source clears it.
If you are new and have not read or favorited anything yet, the sidebar shows a short note that your sources will gather there, instead of sitting empty.
Other changes
- A new topic, Entertainment & Lifestyle.
- Spotlight cards are easier to read.
