How Our Integrations Work
"We believe connecting your favorite platforms shouldn't require compromising your privacy. Every integration follows a strict least-privilege approach: we only request the permissions necessary to deliver your content, and nothing more."
Here's exactly how each integration works across your connected platforms.
Gmail Integration
Your inbox is your private space. We designed our Gmail integration specifically to rescue you from newsletter clutter. Neuplace only processes emails from the Promotions, Updates, and Social categories. Your Primary inbox is never accessed.
How it works:
- Targeted Ingestion: We only look at emails categorized as Promotions, Updates, or Social.
- 14-Day Boundary: To keep your feed relevant and fast, your initial sync only fetches the last 14 days of emails. We intentionally avoid importing years of historical newsletters to keep onboarding fast and your feed immediately relevant.
- Read-Only by Design: Neuplace can read your selected Gmail content to build your discovery experience, but it never modifies your mailbox. Your Gmail account remains the source of truth.
What we never do:
- We never read, scan, or access your Primary inbox.
- We never send emails on your behalf.
- We never permanently delete emails.
- We never parse your emails to build marketing or behavioral profiles.
YouTube Integration
Our YouTube integration brings your favorite creators' newest videos directly into your feed, eliminating the need to rely on the YouTube algorithm to see what you actually subscribed to.
How it works:
- Subscription import: We securely import your existing subscription list.
- New uploads only: After connecting, Neuplace only fetches newly published videos.
- Seamless Authorization: If you've already connected your Google account for Gmail, we simply upgrade your existing connection to include read-only YouTube access—no redundant logins required.
- Chronological Fetching: We periodically check your subscribed channels for new releases, processing metadata in the background to populate your feed sequentially.
What we never do:
- We never subscribe or unsubscribe from channels on your behalf.
- We never leave comments, like, or dislike videos automatically.
- We never analyze your viewing history to train recommendation models.
RSS Integration
For the ultimate decentralized feed experience, our RSS integration lets you follow any blog, news site, or publication directly.
How it works:
- Efficient background updates: RSS feeds are updated in the background, allowing your content to stay fresh without slowing down the application.
- Graceful Handling: If a site or blog you follow goes permanently offline, our system detects the failure and gracefully pauses fetch attempts to conserve resources.
- Clean Parsing: We periodically extract the raw text and media to present articles in a clean, distraction-free reading mode.
What we never do:
- We never inject ads into the fetched articles.
- We never track your reading habits across the web to share with publishers or data brokers.
What We Store
Depending on your selected storage mode, Neuplace stores only the information necessary to power your feed:
- Source metadata & connection tokens
- Feed item timestamps & status
- Read state & local flags
- User display preferences
In Privacy Mode, newsletter bodies are never stored and are retrieved securely only when requested.
Total Control & Revocation
Just like our core architecture, you are always in the driver's seat regarding what data flows into your feed.
- Live import progress: Whether you're connecting a new RSS feed or importing YouTube channels, our system provides real-time updates so you always know what's happening in the background.
- Token Deletion: Revoking access immediately deletes the associated OAuth tokens from our secure secret management systems.
- Data Purge: When an integration is permanently disconnected, we automatically purge the cached feed data associated with that specific source.
