Welcome to Neuplace. This Privacy Policy explains how we collect, use, process, and protect your information when you use our website and services. We believe in strict data minimization—if we don't need it to power your feed, we don't keep it.

"We do not sell your personal data. We do not run advertising algorithms on your content. We only process the minimal information required to organize your updates into a unified feed."

1. Information We Collect

A. Account Information

When you create an account on Neuplace, we collect:

  • Your name and email address.
  • Your timezone and interface preferences.
  • Authentication data (cryptographically hashed passwords or Google OAuth IDs).

B. Connected Services Information

You may authorize Neuplace to connect to third-party services like Google (Gmail, YouTube) and RSS feeds. When you do, we collect:

  • Gmail: Neuplace only processes emails categorized by Gmail as Promotions, Updates, or Social. We collect metadata (sender name, subject, timestamps) to build your unified feed. Your Primary inbox is never accessed.
  • YouTube: We access your public subscription list and recent video uploads from creators you follow.
  • RSS & Podcasts: We fetch publicly accessible feeds and episode descriptions you explicitly subscribe to.

C. Usage Information

We track basic interaction timestamps (such as when you open or mark an item as read) to compute mathematical freshness heuristics for your feed ranking. Neuplace does not build psychological or behavioral profiles.

2. User Content Ownership

Neuplace acts strictly as an aggregator and exploration platform. We do not claim ownership over the content you ingest. The copyrights and intellectual property rights of newsletters, YouTube metadata, podcast audio, and RSS articles remain entirely with their original authors and platforms.

3. How We Use Information

We use the collected information strictly for operational purposes:

  • Deliver, operate, and maintain the Neuplace service.
  • Organize incoming newsletters, video uploads, and feed posts into a single chronological stream.
  • Power the Recon engine, which uses heuristic algorithms to highlight returning sources and burst activity without AI model tracking.
  • Send you essential service alerts, security notifications, and billing receipts.

We never sell your data. We never share your data with data brokers or ad networks.

4. Google Data Disclosure (Limited Use Policy)

Neuplace's use and transfer to any other app of information received from Google APIs adheres strictly to the Google API Services User Data Policy, including the Limited Use requirements.

Limited Access: We only request read-only access (gmail.readonly) restricted to Promotions, Updates, and Social tabs.
Limited Use: We use Google user data exclusively to provide feed aggregation features visible to you.
No Advertising: Google data is never used, transferred, or sold for serving advertisements.
No Human Review: No employee or contractor will read your email content unless required for security investigations or explicitly authorized for support.

5. Data Retention & Deletion

We operate an ephemeral storage architecture designed to purge stale data automatically:

  • Free Tier Retention: Feed updates have a 7-day default retention period before being automatically purged.
  • Pro Tier Retention: Pro subscribers can configure their custom retention period according to their plan settings.
  • Trash Auto-Purge: Soft-deleted items are permanently erased after 14 days in trash.
  • Account Deletion: You can delete your account at any time via settings. Deletion permanently cascades to remove all associated tokens, feed entries, and metadata.

6. Third-Party Processors

We use carefully vetted infrastructure partners to deliver our service:

Google Cloud Platform

Encrypted database storage & backend hosting.

Mailgun

Transactional emails (account verification, password reset).

Sentry

Application error monitoring (PII scrubbed prior to transmission).

Cloudflare

DNS routing, CDN caching, and DDoS defense.

7. Security

We safeguard your information through industry-grade defense practices:

  • All network transmissions are enforced via modern HTTPS and TLS 1.3 encryption.
  • OAuth refresh tokens are encrypted at rest using AES-256 in dedicated secret vaults.
  • Strict SSRF isolation guards prevent unauthorized server-side network requests.

8. Your Rights (GDPR & CCPA)

Depending on your jurisdiction, you have full statutory rights regarding your personal information:

  • Right of Access: Request a full copy of personal data associated with your account.
  • Right to Erasure: Request immediate and irreversible deletion of your account and feeds.
  • Right to Data Portability: Export all saved items and subscription feeds in standard formats.
  • Right to Rectify: Correct any inaccurate account or profile details.
