How to Simplify Your Gmail Inbox with Neuplace

If you use Gmail for newsletters, updates, and other subscriptions, your inbox can quickly become crowded with emails you don't need to see every day.

Neuplace gives you another way to keep up with this content. You can connect your Gmail account, choose the categories you want to sync, and use Neuplace as your dedicated reading space for them.

Once everything is set up, you can simplify Gmail itself by removing the Promotions, Updates, and Social tabs and keeping your inbox focused on Primary.

Here's how.

Phase 1: Connect Gmail to Neuplace

First, connect your Gmail account to Neuplace.

During setup, you can choose which Gmail categories you want to sync:

  • Promotions
  • Updates
  • Social

You don't need to sync every category. Choose only the ones you want to follow through Neuplace.

Your Primary inbox stays outside of this setup.

Phase 2: Clear Your Existing Categories

If you already have thousands of emails in Promotions, Updates, or Social, you may want to clean them up before hiding the tabs.

You don't need to delete these emails. Archiving them is enough. Archived messages remain available in Gmail and can still be found through search or their category labels.

Archive Promotions

Open Gmail and go to Promotions.

Click the Select All checkbox.

If Gmail shows “Select all X conversations in Promotions”, click it.

Click Archive.

Repeat the same process for Updates and Social.

If you have a very large number of messages, Gmail may process the action in batches. If some messages remain, simply repeat the process.

Tip

You don't need to delete these emails just to clean up your inbox. Archiving keeps them available while removing them from the main inbox view.

Phase 3: Hide the Category Tabs

Once your existing messages are archived, you can remove the category tabs from your Gmail inbox.

Click the gear icon in the top right and select See all settings.

Open the Inbox tab.

Find the Categories section.

Uncheck: Promotions, Updates, and Social.

Leave Primary enabled.

Click Save Changes.

Your Gmail inbox is now much simpler.

Phase 4: Keep Using Neuplace

From this point on, Neuplace becomes the place where you keep up with the sources you connected.

Your newsletters and other selected category emails are available in your Neuplace feed, while Gmail can stay focused on the messages that belong in your Primary inbox.

You don't need to keep switching between category tabs just to check what's new.
